China to improve judicial transparency through on-line

The Chinese Supreme People's Court is planning to post some of its judicial verdicts on a website.

It was revealed in a draft of the third five-year reform plan for Chinese courts issued by the Supreme Court Wednesday.

"The practice of some local courts posting their verdicts on the Internet has attracted great attention from the public and media," Jiang Huiling, vice director of the Supreme Court's reform office told Xinhua.

"But to establish such a system does not mean every verdict should be disclosed and the Supreme Court will follow up with detailed regulations for the system," Jiang said.

According to the vice director, it is essential to keep a balance between ensuring the public's right to know and keeping classified files a secret.

The reform will also set regulations about live television broadcasts and recordings of court hearings.
